Directions for reconstituting dried mushrooms:
- Place dried mushrooms in a heat-proof bowl.
- Carefully pour enough boiling water over mushrooms to cover by about half an inch.
- Allow about 15 - 30 minutes for mushrooms to rehydrate and soften.
- Remove mushrooms from water, gently squeeze excess liquid back into bowl, and allow to cool for a moment—then cut into approximately ½-inch pieces (depending on usage).
- Reserve liquid for use in recipes as it contains great flavor from the mushrooms (leave the last 1-2 Tbsp. with any dust or debris).
Best used in: Possible uses for dried mushrooms are many, but some of the best options are risottos, soups, stews, creamy pasta dishes, or quiches.
Tip: Sautéing rehydrated mushrooms is not recommended as they are more likely to burn.
